The EEOC Is Furloughing Staff. Lawyers Weigh What This Says About Workers’ Rights

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is putting all of its employees on a one-day furlough due to a funding shortfall, but will money problems hamper the agency’s ability to carry out its mission?

The EEOC has notified all 2,200 employees that they will be subject to an unpaid administrative furlough on Aug. 30, and a hiring freeze was also announced at the same time. The money-saving measures come as funding to the agency for 2024, $455 million, was at the same level as in 2023, the agency said. The agency asked Congress to provide it $481 million.
