DoNotPay has reached a settlement in a class action alleging that the AI startup illegally claimed to practice law while billing itself as the “world’s first robot lawyer.”
The original lawsuit was filed in March 2023 in the Superior Court of the State of California County of San Francisco. It alleged that DoNotPay flouted the State Bar Act, Cal. Bus. and Prof. Code §§ 6125, by falsely marketing its services as equivalent to those of lawyers authorized to practice law in the state of California.
