President Joe Biden’s reelection campaign possesses a substantial bank account that stands to aid a different candidate, whether it’s Vice President Kamala Harris or another individual, if Biden drops out of the presidential race. However, political law attorneys are divided on how easily Biden’s campaign cash could change hands.
Some attorneys argue that campaign finance laws would suggest if Harris takes his place, then she could use the funds. Others point to challenges in accessing the money if Biden drops out of the race before he is formally nominated. If another Democrat besides Harris takes his place, such as California Gov. Gavin Newsom or Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, it would be a whole different situation, they added.
