On Tuesday, Thomson Reuters announced the U.K. launch of CoCounsel Core, a stand-alone version of its legal artificial intelligence assistant accessible without a Westlaw subscription. The company also announced the upcoming U.K. availability of AI-Assisted Research on Westlaw Edge UK, a generative AI update to its legal research platform that will be available ”in the coming weeks,” according to a news release.
CoCounsel was developed by legal research company Casetext, which Thomson Reuters acquired for $650 million last August. Thomson Reuters initially announced CoCounsel Core for the U.S. market last November, alongside a broader integration of CoCounsel throughout its suite of tools. The legal AI assistant allows users to leverage generative AI to perform a number of tasks, from document drafting and summarization to data extraction, search and research.
