Staten Island District Attorney Michael McMahon lambasted New York’s Raise the Age laws, and said his borough’s youth are getting caught in a cycle of violence that leaves them dead.
“Arrests are up, the number of victims is up, so how can anybody say that the law is working?” McMahon said of legislation that upped the age an individual can be prosecuted as an adult to 18. “They’re arrested and immediately released without any meaningful outcomes. There’s a dearth of services for these kids.”
