The Southern District of New York remains by far the busiest district for federal securities litigation, but the number of cases filed fell nationwide between 2021 and 2023, according to a new report from Lex Machina.
In the highly active deal environment of 2021, the volume of securities litigation peaked at 2,647 cases filed, according to the report. The number of cases fell to 1,937 in 2022 and then 1,758 in 2023, the lowest number of new cases since 2017, according to the report.
