A former court attorney at the Appellate Division, First Department abused her position when she answered a question that ultimately netted her husband $50,000, a prosecutor told jurors Tuesday.
“Our system is not for hire,” Thomas Reilly, a prosecutor from the Manhattan District Attorney’s office, said in opening statements in the trial of ex-court director Melissa Ringel, who headed a preargument mediation unit. “Court attorneys cannot give legal advice to benefit their husband’s law firm.”
