A Nevada judge is weighing whether to overhaul an Uber-backed ballot initiative that would impose a 20% cap on contingency fees in all civil cases, including sexual assault lawsuits.
At issue is a ballot initiative announced earlier this year by a political action committee called Nevadans for Fair Recovery. The initiative purports to return a larger share of civil judgments to plaintiffs by imposing a fee cap for attorneys in civil lawsuits. If approved, the measure could end up on the 2026 ballot and become effective in 2027.
