The University of the Arts, a private nonprofit institution in Philadelphia, was slapped with a class action on Aug. 13 in Pennsylvania Eastern District Court. The court case arises from the school’s announcement that the school would be permanently closed on June 7. The suit, filed by Lynch Carpenter and Poulin Willey Anastopoulo on behalf of students who attended the University before the announcement, contends that the University did not provide students with a plan to continue their education prior to announcing the closure. The plaintiffs argue that they have lost educational, housing, and other opportunities and seek to recover tuition, fees and other damages incurred as a result of the closure. Counsel have not yet appeared for the defendant. The case is 2:24-cv-04164, Morehouse v. The University Of The Arts.
