With the advent of generative artificial intelligence, it can seem like a brave new world for the legal market. But as much as things change, they also stay the same.

At the annual Legalweek Judges Debate keynote on Wednesday, moderated by Patrick Oot, a partner at Shook, Hardy & Bacon, former federal judges advised the audience that while some AI technology may seem new, opaque and groundbreaking, it doesn’t change the obligations under American Bar Association ethics rules or the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure.
