This past year was one of much disruption for law firms, as well as their clients. The introduction of generative AI in particular has raised questions about long-relied-upon business models, including the commitment to the billable hour. While those questions don’t have immediate answers, we can expect to see the conversations surrounding them heat up in the year ahead.
Law firm/client interactions will likely enter uncharted territory in the new year. While firms continue to grapple with competition from ALSPs and pursue their own paths to efficiency and innovation, they’re increasingly being asked to advise clients in non-traditional areas like technology selection and implementation. The year ahead looks to be an interesting one indeed.
