An attorney died while attending the New Jersey Association for Justice Boardwalk Seminar in Atlantic City on April 18.
Robert E. Taylor Jr., a personal injury attorney in Kenilworth, died in his room at Harrah’s Resort and Casino in Atlantic City while at the conference, said a colleague, Craig M. Rothenberg. He was 50.
Others attending the conference, which has drawn 1,800 participants in past years, said they were unaware of what happened.
Taylor’s death was “quite unexpected,” said Rothenberg, who hired Taylor soon after Taylor graduated from Seton Hall University School of Law in 1999.
Taylor was later a solo practitioner who represented plaintiffs in civil litigation, including auto accidents, fall-downs and other premises liability and medical malpractice cases, according to his LinkedIn page.
“He was an excellent attorney, and he was always concerned for getting the best outcome for our clients,” Rothenberg said. “Even after he left the firm, we continued to maintain a business relationship. I continued to refer matters. He was a quality person and a quality attorney.”
Rothenberg also attended the NJAJ conference, and had been hoping to see Taylor during the event, but the two never got together.
“Just really a nice, nice man who was doing important work,” Rothenberg said.
Taylor received a bachelor’s degree in English from Princeton University before attending law school at Seton Hall. He was a former Kenilworth councilman.
