A West Hartford police officer is facing a lawsuit under a new Connecticut law, the Police Accountability Act, for allegedly fatally shooting an unarmed civilian.
The Police Accountability Act was passed in 2020 after George Floyd was murdered by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin. The act prevents the argument of qualified immunity when the police commit civil rights violations, such as improper use of deadly force.
