Large grocery retailers were able to embed their market dominance as the COVID-19 pandemic’s supply chain disruptions disproportionately affected smaller retailers’ ability to obtain products, the Federal Trade Commission stated this week in a report that has sparked the agency’s concern.
FTC Chair Lina Khan called the findings consistent with what she hears from independent grocers who suspect discriminatory conduct and differential pricing has benefited their larger competitors.
