Mark Twain is usually credited with saying: “History doesn’t repeat itself. But it often rhymes.” Whether or not the quote actually came from the American humorist, it’s an apt way to think about The American Lawyer’s A-List over the last five years.
Indeed, a handful of the top firms in the rankings back in 2019 remain there—including No. 1-ranked Munger, Tolles & Olson. But just as many have fallen out of the top 20 entirely, and a couple of them don’t even technically exist anymore.
