Elliott Greenleaf has won its bid to retain $11 million in referral fees for a case it referred to Saltz Mongeluzzi & Bendesky in 2014, after the Pennsylvania Supreme Court on Tuesday declined to hear a former shareholder’s appeal.
The dispute centered around former Elliott Greenleaf shareholder Richard DeMarco’s claims that he, and not the firm, was entitled to the $11 million referral for a personal injury case he helped originate that his then-firm referred to Saltz Mongeluzzi for trial. That personal injury case, which involved severe injuries sustained in a 2014 propane gas explosion, ultimately brought in a $71.1 million verdict in 2018.
