Lawyers for Donald Trump are asking an intermediate New York appeals court to reduce or dismiss a lower court’s nearly $500 million civil fraud judgment against the former president and others, arguing that the “draconian” judgment and the case itself violate “centuries of New York case law.”
Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Arthur Engoron in February found that Trump and others had fraudulently valued his net worth in order to obtain more favorable loans and ordered $454 million in disgorgement, plus interest.
