A U.S. Department of Justice attorney began closing the government’s months-old antitrust case against Google Thursday by telling the presiding judge that the internet giant has maintained an illegal search engine monopoly by making exclusive deals with providers and making it difficult for users to switch defaults on their devices.

Google’s counsel countered that the company’s dominance of the search engine market results not from illicit action but by having a superior product.
