The rise of artificial intelligence can present new threats to the market for ideas and innovation by dominant players, so effective antitrust enforcement must help ensure competition within the AI ecosystem, the U.S. Department of Justice’s chief antitrust enforcer said Thursday.

“Effective antitrust enforcement often coincides with major industrial and technological change,” Assistant U.S. Attorney General Jonathan Kanter told attendees at Stanford University’s Promoting Competition in AI event.
