A gubernatorial appointment for a San Antonio court of appeals seat has boosted a candidate’s chances of remaining on the court.
In an unusual twist, Gov. Greg Abbott appointed appellate practitioner Lori Massey Brissette to fill the Place 3 seat vacated by retiring Justice Patricia Alvarez, even though Brissette, 56, was already running as a Republican for the Place 4 seat. Another Republican, Todd McCray, has been in the race for Place 3 after defeating Michael Ritter in the March 5 primary.
