The Federal Trade Commission’s aggressive nationwide rules could conflict with other U.S. agency regulations and state laws, former FTC officials and regulatory attorneys said Wednesday in calling for a more industry-by-industry approach to regulation by the agency.
Nina Frant, a former attorney adviser at the FTC, said the agency’s approach to proposing economy-wide rules aligns with the Biden administration’s push for an all-government response to consumer issues.
