A state attorney’s office in South Florida declined to bring extortion charges against a Fort Lauderdale securities litigator, whom prosecutors noted in their closeout memo lived at the Hampton Beach Club, a condominium whose governing environment has been described as “toxic, polarizing, and even the ‘Hatfields vs. McCoys.’”
The indictment, filed Oct. 31 by the Broward County State Attorney’s Office, charged solo practitioner David Weintraub with extortion—a second-degree felony carrying up to 15 years in prison—after resident Ghada Aly claimed the attorney used “private” arrest information to compel her to resign from the condo’s association board or face exposure to disgrace.
