Chief Justice Patricia Guerrero on Friday asked state lawmakers to “stand down” and allow the judicial branch to craft its own rules for dealing with issues surrounding generative artificial intelligence and the courts.
Guerrero made the comments at a Judicial Council meeting in San Francisco after she appointed a task force, led by Justice Brad Hill of the Fifth District Court of Appeal, to “determine the next steps” on addressing questions surrounding evidence, filings and court work that might be shaped by AI.
