A transgender woman from Kennesaw, Georgia, who claims she was mocked by hospital staff and strip-searched by male nurses, will have her discrimination claims heard at trial after the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Georgia denied the hospital’s motion for summary judgment last week.
In February 2019, the plaintiff, Samantha Jolley, sought admission into Lakeview Behavioral Health Hospital for suicidal ideation, a routine result of suffering from chronic daily headache since age 13. After expressing the feelings to her psychiatrist, a Form 1013 was signed confirming an involuntarily psychiatric treatment at Lakeview, according to the order filed March 28.
