Former head of the National Rifle Association Wayne LaPierre ran the gun-rights organization as a king, stacking the board with loyalists and maintaining power through secrecy and suppression, the New York Attorney General’s Office told jurors Monday.

In her opening statements, Special Counsel Monica Connell alleged that LaPierre ran the nonprofit as “Wayne’s World for decades” while using the organization to fund his own luxury lifestyle.
