A merger between grocery giants Kroger and Albertsons hit a snag Monday after a lawsuit from Washington state challenged the $25 billion merger, alleging it would severely limit consumer choice and shopping options in the state.
Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson filed the complaint in the state’s King County Superior Court Monday. The filing claims Kroger will have a near-monopoly in many markets in the state with the anticipated merger likely to increase the concentration of the same company owning stores throughout Washington.
