On Tuesday, Thomson Reuters announced the first international expansion of its CoCounsel Core offering by launching the generative AI legal assistant in Canada and Australia. Thomson Reuters foreshadowed the launch last month, when it also announced new generative AI features within Practical Law.
CoCounsel Core was first announced in the US in November 2023 as a standalone offering of the original CoCounsel features created by Casetext before its acquisition by Thomson Reuters, without the need for a Westlaw subscription. Currently, CoCounsel Core offers AI-powered functionality in eight areas, which the company calls “core legal skills.” They include: deposition preparation, correspondence drafting; database search; document review; document summarization; contract data extraction; contract policy compliance; and timelines.
