A multinational company focused on building infrastructure has agreed to pay over $1 million to resolve violations of the False Claims Act after it allegedly provided falsified data to the Department of Housing and Urban Development to incentivize housing authorities to make energy-saving capital improvements.

Siemens Industry, a subsidiary of Siemens Corp., entered into a contract in 2011 with the Hamtramck Housing Commission, a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development-funded public housing authority, located just minutes outside of Detroit, Michigan. According to the agreement, Siemens would install energy efficient furnaces, water heaters, lighting, and electrical units, among other things, to make for a more cost-effective energy bill in two Hamtramck public housing facilities, according to a statement by U.S. Attorney Dawn N. Ison on Thursday.
