In a speedy, under-the-radar move, Rhode Island became the twentieth U.S. state to enact a comprehensive data privacy statute, adding to the patchwork of such legislation.
The Rhode Island Data Transparency and Privacy Protection Act (RIDTPPA) was signed into law Gov. Daniel McKee on June 29, and will go into effect on Jan. 1, 2026.
