The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission is urging broker-dealers to boost their anti-money laundering programs, illustrating the agency’s heightened priority of stanching the flow of illicit money, lawyers said.
The SEC’s Division of Examinations released a risk alert this week stating that broker-dealers were not meeting the AML standards. Specifically, some firms’ programs lacked sufficient resources and some were inconsistent when implementing policies.
