U.S. securities laws do not accommodate the digital assets market, and regulatory agencies should support Congress’ efforts to clarify the space, former U.S. Securities and Exchange commissioners said Monday.
The comments from Daniel Gallagher, Paul Atkins, Michael Piwowar and Troy Paredes come amid much debate between federal agencies on regulating the digital assets market. The Commodity Futures Trading Commission believes tokens are commodities, while the Securities and Exchange Commission says most digital assets are securities and should be regulated under its authority.
