An Australian court has ordered Facebook owner Meta to pay fines totaling A$20 million ($13.3 million) for failing to tell users of its free security app that it was collecting and sharing user data.
Meta subsidiaries Facebook Israel and Onavo Inc. were each ordered to pay A$10 million for engaging in conduct liable to mislead in breach of Australian Consumer Law following court action taken by the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission (ACCC).
