McDonald’s has lost its right to call its chicken sandwiches a “Big Mac” in the European Union after a ruling by the EU’s second-highest court on Wednesday.

McDonald’s has been in a long-running dispute with its Irish rival Supermac’s over whether its Big Mac trademark applies to chicken products and various fast-food services. The Luxembourg-based EU General Court—a constituent court of the Court of Justice of the European Union—ruled that it does not, handing a partial win to Supermac’s, a Galway-based fast-food chain with aspirations to expand to continental Europe.
