Saying that law firms and lawyers should be able to do their jobs “without fear of retribution,” the New York State Bar Association has announced it will study the “legal and ethical implications” of companies such as the Madison Square Garden Entertainment Corp. using facial recognition technology to block certain lawyers from walking through their doors.
“The use of facial recognition software to exclude members of law firms from a Knicks basketball game or a Taylor Swift concert discriminates against lawyers for doing their jobs,” said Sherry Levin Wallach, the New York State Bar Association president, in announcing the formation of a “Working Group on Facial Recognition Technology and Access to Legal Representation.”
