The South Dakota Supreme Court ruled that the affidavit for a criminal investigation into the billionaire founder of First Premier Bank would be unsealed, ultimately denying his request that he be allowed to redact any personal or private information before the circuit court does so.

In an April 5 opinion, the court affirmed a circuit court’s decision that, following the termination of the investigation into T. Denny Sanford, a South Dakota billionaire banker and philanthropist, the five search warrants would be unsealed and available for public inspection or disclosure, with certain personally identifying information, such as email addresses or phone numbers, redacted at the court’s discretion.
