Fred Hiestand, a Sacramento lawyer whose name was synonymous with tort reform in litigation and in California politics, died July 2 after a recent cancer diagnosis, according to a statement released Friday by the Civil Justice Association of California. He was 79.
Hiestand had served as CJAC’s general counsel since the business friendly organization was founded in 1979. His name has appeared on dozens of filings in the state and federal appellate courts, often as a signatory on CJAC amicus briefs supporting insurers, ride-hailing companies and retail chains.
