A $2.67 billion settlement was approved in an Alabama court today after almost a decade of litigation against insurance provider Blue Cross Blue Shield. Lead firm Boies Schiller Flexner has had its own fee approved, amounting to a $667 million windfall for the firm, according to court documents.
Federal Judge R. David Proctor signed off on the legal fee, saying 25% of the award was reasonable. Boies Schiller originated and led the multidistrict litigation against BCBS for over nine years, along with litigation boutique Hausfeld. D.C. law firm Cooper & Kirk also assisted in the litigation.
