A three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit on Wednesday affirmed a Manhattan federal judge’s ruling on the ownership of a 6,000-year-old marble statue claimed by the Republic of Turkey in favor of the auction house Christie’s and collector Michael Steinhardt.
Turkey, through its attorneys at Herrick, Feinstein, brought claims of conversion and replevin against Christie’s and Steinhardt in 2017, arguing that it had only recently learned that the statue, known as the Stargazer, was in the possession of Christie’s and about to be auctioned.
