Managing change, counterintuitive approaches and, of course, generative AI were all on the agenda at the recent Legal Geek North America 2023 confrence in Chicago. In a day packed with nearly two dozen TED Talk-style presentations and multiple networking opportunities, the self-described “Glastonbury of Legal Events” offered a variety of insights for the hundreds of attendees from law firms, in-house legal department, legal tech startups and other organizations.

It wouldn’t be a legal tech conference in 2023 without a lot of talk about generative AI. Ben Chiriboga, chief growth officer of NEXL, discussed how generative AI will initially change the way firms approach business development and marketing. According to Chiriboga, when GenAI inevitably leads to the commoditization of legal work, what remains will be relationships. Developing relationship intelligence will be the key that sets lawyers apart. “When practice intelligence is the same, relationship intelligence remains,” he said.
