Lawyers Predict Generative AI Impact—But Aren’t Exactly Welcoming It

Most lawyers and law students are aware of generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, though while a sizable amount have leveraged such technology before, few are currently using it for their work, according to a new survey of 1,239 law students, 1,176 lawyers and 1,765 consumers by LexisNexis.

Only 14% of lawyers and 10% of law students said they have not heard of generative AI tools such as ChatGPT. Still only a minority of either group—36% of lawyers and 44% of law students—said they have used such tools either personally or professionally.
