It is difficult to remember what legal tech circles talked about before December 2022—when OpenAI’s ChatGPT, the generative AI-powered chatbot, was first made available to the public—and has since dominated the conversation.
But of course, other technologies had grasped the industry’s collective attention in the months prior: the metaverse, nonfungible tokens and cryptocurrency; and of course contract lifecycle management (CLM). Rewinding further, there was technology assisted review (TAR) and its cousin, continuous active learning (CAL or TAR 2.0).
