The El Paso County 65th District Court became an open seat this season when Judge Yahara Lisa Gutierrez opted not to seek a third term. Attorneys Omar Carmona and Selina Saenz are running in the Democratic Party primary to fill her seat.
Carmona was prominently in the local media in 2022 when he spearheaded a petition to have former District Attorney Yvonne Rosales removed from office on allegations of official misconduct and continued incompetence. Rosales resigned from office before the petition went to trial.
