A panel of New York law school deans on Monday gave its stamp of approval to Gov. Kathy Hochul’s latest pick for the state’s ethics watchdog, which suffers from lame-duck status as two courts have agreed with lawyers for ex-Gov. Andrew Cuomo that the body was unconstitutionally created by lawmakers.

The New York State Independent Review Committee of deans from New York’s 15 American Bar Association-accredited law schools, completed its formal review and signed off on Hochul’s nomination of James Caras to serve on the 11-member Commission on Ethics and Lobbying in Government.
