Companies are getting new guidance from the Federal Trade Commission on the sometimes-murky question of what constitutes a legitimate environmental claim and what constitutes “greenwashing.”
The FTC is accepting comments until Feb. 21 on potential updates and changes to its Green Guides for the Use of Environmental Claims. Companies have relied on the guides since 1992 to help them avoid making deceptive environmental marketing claims. The last updates were in 2012.
