Big corporate law departments have been sending more business to fewer law firms for many years now as a way to cut costs, drive diversity initiatives and build stronger relationships with outside counsel. Then COVID-19 came along and accelerated the trend.
Now, though, it appears that so much whittling of outside counsel lists could have a costly downside for in-house legal departments.
