Sharing in the alarm of 83 law firms that signed onto an amicus brief this week, the Association of Corporate Counsel has filed its own brief seeking to uphold attorney-client privilege protections following a federal subpoena seeking the identities of Covington & Burling clients.
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission issued a subpoena to the firm seeking the identities of nearly 300 clients accessed during a 2020 Chinese state-sponsored cyberattack. The SEC said it is investigating possible insider trading or other securities violations resulting from the data breach, not necessarily involving the law firm’s clients.
