The written closing arguments provide an early look into the trial on whether Joe Carollo and his wife have constitutional protection that would prevent the auction of their Coconut Grove house to pay for part of a $63.5 million civil verdict against the Miami District 3 commissioner.

“To be sure, there has never been a case exactly like this one, where a sitting City Commissioner has compromised an entire legislative redistricting process—lying to his constituents and to this court along the way—in an effort to protect his personal property from an adverse judgment,” Jeffrey Gutchess, a partner at the AXS Law Group, alleged in the filing.
