Labor and employment lawyer George Avraam has been named the new managing partner of Baker McKenzie’s sole Canadian office in Toronto.
Avraam previously chaired the firm’s North America employment and compensation practice group, which will now be led by Susan Eandi in Palo Alto, California.
Avraam has represented a range of clients in high-stakes labor litigation, #MeToo cases, multimillion-dollar employment class-actions, and prominent administrative and public law matters.
Earlier this year, he successfully defended McMaster University in a case challenging its mandatory vaccination policy.
Avraam is recognized as one of Canada’s leading labor, employment, human rights, administrative and public law litigators and is a Fellow of the College of Labor and Employment Lawyers.
His appointment is part of firm-wide leadership announcements across its global offices. In North America, these include Pepe Larroque, the new managing partner of the five Baker McKenzie Mexico offices, and Michelle Hartmann, who will take over as managing partner of the firm’s two Texas offices in July 2023.
