Canadian law firm Borden Ladner Gervais has appointed Calgary-based corporate lawyer Joel Jones as chair of its partnership board. The partnership board of the 800-lawyer firm provides overall direction, oversight, and governance for the firm.
Jones has been a member of the partnership board since 2017 and succeeds Vancouver labor and employment partner Shelley-Mae Mitchell, who will continue to practice at the firm. Borden Ladner’s 11-member partnership board is made up of elected regional representatives from each of its offices located in Montréal, Ottawa, Toronto, Calgary, and Vancouver.
Borden Ladner’s national managing partner and CEO John Murphy lauded Mitchell as a “champion” of diversity and inclusion and said her “leadership and governance contributions have been invaluable, particularly as we navigated the pandemic.”
Jones has extensive experience in M&A, financing transactions, and corporate and securities compliance. He will continue to serve clients while leading the board.
In addition to his new role, Jones is a member of the firm’s audit committee, chair of its international committee and U.S. task force, and national lead of the agribusiness sector group. His clients include AutoCanada Inc., Berkshire Hathaway Energy Co., and Stone Canyon Industries Holdings LLC, according to his firm bio. He was previously an equities trader in New York.
