A federal judge in New York dismissed a 2019 lawsuit by nine Long Island-area towns that claimed New York’s attorney general unconstitutionally prevented them from filing separate claims relative to the opioid crisis because the state had negotiated a universal settlement with Big Pharma and dispensed the proceeds.

In a statement to the Law Journal, a spokesman for New York Attorney General Letitia James said: “New Yorkers across the entire state have been devastated by the opioid crisis, and Attorney General Letitia James will continue to ensure the $2.6 billion her office has secured from those responsible are used to help our state move forward.”
